Pre-65 and already on Social Security

• Your Cards: The Social Security Administration will mail your red, white, and blue Medicare card to you.
• The Timeline: Your card will arrive in your mailbox about 3 months before your 65th birthday.
• Effective Date: Your coverage will officially start on the first day of the month you turn 65. (If your birthday is on the first of the month, coverage starts the first day of the prior month).

•  Check Your Mail: Keep a close eye on your mail 3 months before your birthday month so you do not mistake the package for junk mail.
• Review the Part B Premium: Part B has a monthly premium that will be automatically deducted from your monthly Social Security check.

Original Medicare (Parts A & B) does not cover prescription drugs or out-of-pocket deductibles. You must choose a private insurance supplement to avoid penalties. Our role is to help you evaluate your options and select the plan that best fits your needs. 

• Add Drug Coverage (Part D): Original Medicare does not cover prescriptions. You must choose and buy a private Part D plan to avoid future late penalties.
• Choose a Path: Decide if you want to keep Original Medicare and add a Medigap (Supplement) policy, or if you prefer to bundle everything into a private Medicare Advantage (Part C) plan.
